answering service Past Show

Created as a way to deliver unique, thoughtful, wry, and amusing auditory moments via one’s telephone, Answering Service had a daily rotating selection of three different moments delivered via a classic automated phone tree.

A caller would call into the system and select one of four options: Inspiration, Commiseration, and Cohabitation. Each option changed each day, though the limits of the phone system being used meant that each option could be no longer than two minutes. (One could dial 0 for Information which was where we had the daily credits of contributors.)

The collaboration was essentially an artistic potluck calling upon colleagues from every corner of our lives: actors and voice over artists, prose writers, poets, and playwrights, musicians, comedians, astronomers, game designers and immersive experience creators, performance artists, family, and friends.

The recorded material spanned the gamut of audio: original stories, selected readings, original songs, cover songs, short jokes, long jokes, mini-plays, monologues, a description of the show “Full House” from someone that has never seen it, and every-so-often an invitation to go out and look up at the constellations in the night sky.
